On Friday of spring break, Gennette, Renee, and Erin set out for Chicago.
They arrived at Argonne around 1 AM, went to bed at 3, and got up at 7
to drive to Downers Grove and catch a train into the city.

They had trouble finding Wacker Drive/Avenue/Street where the Argonnians' hotel was,
so after getting all chilled and windblown, they met up with Sarah's Illinois cohorts
at the river, which was being dyed green for St. Patrick's Day.

Yes, it was really that color.

The view from the Radioactiveheads' hotel room as more green dye was sprayed into the river.

Next the gang headed for the end of the parade route and waited around.

We're still not sure why Dubya was there.

A friendly leprechaun on rollerblades went past twice.

What most people don't realize about Chicago is that 90% of its population
is made up of little cloned Irish dancing girls with identical outfits and curls.
I'm telling you, they're building an army.

The girls pause on the bridge on the way back from the parade. That green is the water.

Sunday, March 18

It's a good thing we have a picture of Gennette eating a Pop Tart on the way out of Argonne Sunday morning.

On Sunday, they found the cutest little chocolate shop.
(Okay, actually it was the Field Museum, and they didn't
bother to pay extra to see the chocolate exhibit.)

Julie, Sarah, Eric, and Nate on the trolley.

The Nebraskans had to explain that having horns did not make it a bull.

And then Gennette tried a little cow-tipping.

They waited outside while the Radioactiveheads claimed possessions from the hotel.

In the evening, the NUers went up north a ways and wandered around.
The Mongolian Barbecue was so good they had to go back three times--the same night.
Gennette's wallet disappeared, and they had to make sure it hadn't fallen out
in the booth or been thrown out when the table was cleared.

Monday, March 19

On Monday while the Argonnians were back at work, the three tourists had trouble parking legally and consequently missed the 10:30 train by minutes. This gave them two hours to kill in Downers Grove, so they stopped for lunch in a little sandwich shop that was having its grand opening. Things were a little crazy in there. This was supposed to be a small Classic Italian sub, minus the vegetables. It had seven kinds of meat and four kinds of cheese, and it was almost bigger than Erin's head.

Erin tried to feed some to Mr. Bear, but he wasn't feeling especially carnivorous that day.

Arriving on the appropriate train was the easy part.

The three tourists paid admission and got in line at the Sears Tower, then found out they had to scramble to get back to Argonne by seven. They had just enough time on top to snap a few pictures.

Rivaling Erin's mega-meat sandwich from earlier in the day, Gennette had a really big salad.

The gang settled in for the evening with the mice and boxelder bugs.

(Nate and Julie look harmless in this picture, but just wait....)

Sarah provided a nice dinner of pasta, salad, and corn chips.

Meanwhile, Erin contemplated her sunburn.

Julie and Sarah wisely positioned themselves next to the door for an easy escape.

As Julie and Nate were doing dishes, a towel fight suddenly broke out.

First Jay was drawn in...

...and then Ryan joined the fight.

Gennette, Erin, and Renee mostly sat back and watched the floor show from a safe distance.

Well, nearly safe. Almost everyone ended up taking up arms.

Several people were nearly killed.

Afterward, Bryce sprinkled paper plates on Sarah's lifeless body.

Then he disguised himself as "the naughty librarian," with Nate's glasses and Gennette's beads.

Aren't Sarah and her roommate Julie cute together?
(Yes, Julie is strangling Sarah with Mardi Gras beads.)
