Why UNL? Why not UNO?

Okay before this is read, I would just like that to comment that is was a lack-of-sleep induced rambling that occured in the midst of my classes this morning after I had gotten about an
hour and a half of sleep and was ready to hit the floor. I thought I would type it out so that you could actually read and perhaps even comprehend bits of what would otherwise have
been chicken-scratch ramblings.
Okay, so i was standing in the hallway at Henzlik this morning, waiting to get into my health class (yeah, I know...can we say "easy class"??....but hey, its required). Anyway, I was
standing near a cluster of sorority girls, the majority of whom were freshmen from Omaha. They were all complaining about how much they hate UNL, and I was kind of intrigued (okay,
okay ...so I had nothing better to do as I waited for the class ahead of mine to let out) so I started actually listening to what they were saying.
The first girl was complaining that she missed home. Hello, you live 45 minutes away, Give Me A Break. I mean, the whole point of "going away" to college is to gain a sense of
independence from your parents. I mean, I know that I for one do not want to live in my parents' basement my entire life, and even if i was crazy enough to like UNO better than UNL, i
would probably NOT live at home because I would go insane. Also, how do they think out of state students feel? A lot of them have neither the time nor the money to go home very
often, so they are pretty much stuck here. If anyone really has a right to complain about homesickness it is those who come from a relatively far distance and do not have the
opportunity to go home all of the time.
Then, another girl went on to say that she hated UNL, and the only reason she was still here were the sororities. Okay great, so if the sororities are the ONLY reason one should
want to be here, then what in GOD's NAME am I doing here?? After all, I am part of the PLG, the very epitomy of anti-sorority. I mean, gee UNO is soooo much cheaper and their
programs are soooo much better and the people are soooo much more normal there. And on top of that, I would GET to live at home and listen to my parents nag and monitor my
every move. If I went to UNO (God forbid!), who would help to a-salt random residents of Neihardt at one in the morning? Who would be here to remind everyone that "He's sooooooo
cute!!"??? Who would be around to pound on Ryan's floor at three in the morning to make sure he knew that he was not the only one suffering through another sleepless night?
Okay, so Lincoln may not be the BEST college in the United States, but it's not too shabby either. There is SO much more to Lincoln than the greek system...just ask anyone in the
PLG! For the most part, we are all active in lots of different things, both on and off campus, giving us opportunities to meet countless "interesting" people. Also, considering how
psychotic, how shy and how procrastinatory some of us can be, for the most part I think we are all relatively well-adjusted to college life.
So what is the big deal? What is so BAD about about Lincoln that somebody would actually prefer to go home rather than to attend classes with delusional, sleep deprived
individuals such as myself? I am at a loss to answer this question. There are so many pluses here (unless you are in Sarah's cracked out math class that doesn't add because they
don't use any numbers), why would anyone be happy anywhere else (well...unless maby they had a full ride to MIT or some ivy league school or something like that)?? I mean, off the
top of my head, I could name several reasons why Lincoln kicks a@%: Erin, Sarah, Liz, Morgan, Megan, Laura, Gennette, Erin (the other one!)...and oh yeah, ME!!! :o)
